Styria shook by earthquake

Earthquake Recorded Near Ruše in Southeast Slovenia

At 9:15 p.m. local time, the state network of earthquake observation stations registered a magnitude 1.9 earthquake approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Ruše, in the southeastern region of Slovenia, known as Styria. The event was reported by the Environmental Agency of the Republic of Slovenia.

Initial data indicates that the earthquake was felt by residents in several municipalities, including Ruše, Maribor, Selnica ob Dravi, Slovenska Bistrica, and Hoče-Slivnica. Within 30 minutes following the tremor, approximately 190 reports were received from individuals who experienced the shaking. Seismological assessments determined the intensity of the earthquake did not exceed the fourth level (IV) on the European Macrocscale-88 (EMS-98) scale.

This classification, defined as “prevalently felt,” describes an event where “Many people in buildings feel it, but few outside. Some people wake up. Windows, doors and dishes rattle.”

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess the impact of the earthquake.
