I hate the traffic light and two hours to drive from Koper to Piran

Construction on Jagodje-Valeta Road Causes Significant Traffic Disruptions

The Republic of Slovenia’s Directorate for Infrastructure has initiated extensive construction on the national road connecting Jagodje and Valeta in the Belveder area. As part of the project, a temporary roundabout is being permanently established following completion of the works, with a partial road closure anticipated until June 30th. During this period, traffic flowing in one direction will be managed by a traffic light, supplemented by manual direction from construction workers during peak periods.

Despite these measures, the altered traffic regime has resulted in considerable congestion and driver frustration. On Tuesday, a complete traffic collapse occurred alongside a minor traffic incident near Strunjan, significantly impacting travel times. Journey durations between Koper, Izola, and Piran stretched to up to two hours for a typical 20-minute route.

Local bypass roads were also completely paralyzed by the increased traffic volume. Today, conditions remained challenging, with drivers experiencing substantial delays. The implementation of the traffic light system has proven insufficient to manage the volume of traffic, highlighting the ongoing disruption to road users.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and implement adjustments to the traffic light configuration.
