Slovenia after a turnaround to victory in preparations for the World Cup

Slovenian Team Embarks on Polish Preparations for Second-Tier Competition

Slovenia’s national handball team has commenced preparations for the upcoming Second-Tier (SP) competition, scheduled to begin on May 2nd in Sosnowiec, Poland. Following several initial training sessions at their established national base in Bled, the team traveled to Poland to engage in intensive testing against host nation, Poland, and Kazakhstan. Matches against Poland are slated for today and Saturday, while Slovenia will face Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

These engagements are crucial as Slovenia, led by coach Ed Terglav, is entering the SP with just beginning its preparations. The team’s first official match is set for May 16th in Fribourg against the Czech Republic. A squad of 27 players is currently in Poland, including goalkeeper Lukaš Horak, who is returning to full training after a significant injury and extended recovery period.

Recent squad selections included Žan Us and Luka Kolin for today’s match, with Us also being given the opportunity to train as goalkeeper. These preparatory matches are vital for Slovenia as they build towards the SP, aiming to demonstrate their readiness for the competition. The team’s focus remains on strategic development and tactical refinement as they enter this important phase after a period of recovery for key personnel.
