Slovenians on average are absent from work for 21 days

Across the European Union in 2024, 77 percent of citizens aged 16 and over reported feeling their general health was good or very good. Ireland and Malta led the way with 80 percent and 79 percent respectively, while Lithuania and Latvia recorded the lowest figures at 49 percent. Slovenia’s data showed 66 percent of the population considered their health good or very good, slightly below the EU average of 68 percent, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (Surs).

Furthermore, the average number of days workers were absent from work due to illness was 21 calendar days. This figure varied by gender, with women averaging 25 days of sick leave – approximately eight days more than men. Despite the higher overall absence rate, individual instances of sick leave were shorter for women.

Data indicates women tended to take more frequent absences, averaging over once per period, but each individual absence was shorter in duration compared to men.
