Search and Rescue Operation Underway for Missing Hiker in Nova Gorica Region
Authorities in nova gorica initiated a search and rescue operation this morning following the disappearance of a 66-year-old Dutch hiker. The Regional Information Center in Nova Gorica received the initial report at 11:00 a.m. regarding the missing individual.
The hiker was part of a group of six hikers undertaking a trek from Črna prst to the House on Komna. According to preliminary reports, the group dispersed during the hike, and one member was subsequently found to be separated. Following a search of the trail, the group discovered a hiking stick and, shortly after, located a damaged backpack beneath a cliff wall near Črna prst, situated close to the Matajur peak at an altitude of 1936 meters.
Due to the exceptionally challenging and steep terrain, immediate access to the individual was deemed unsafe. Emergency services were subsequently contacted to assist with the operation. Search and rescue teams are currently assessing the situation and coordinating efforts to safely reach the hiker and determine the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
