Sixteen cellars, a spring day and the heart among the vineyards

In the softly contoured hills of Svečina, nestled amidst expansive vineyards and the sun-kissed terrain of the former Pannonian plain, wine holds a profound significance. It’s far more than a simple beverage; it’s intrinsically woven into the very fabric of this region’s identity, its history, and daily routines. The Podravska vinorodna regija, of which Svečina is a key component, is renowned for its distinctive white aromatic wine varieties.

Statistics from 2020 reveal a remarkable landscape: a total of 17,769 vineyards and 5,699 dedicated wine growers operated within this wine-growing area. For over twenty years, the “Open Doors Day” event has been a cherished tradition, successfully uniting wine, local residents, and the captivating location itself. This popular gathering continues to thrive.

“Fundamentally, it’s a celebration of the Open Doors Day or the Spring Festival,” states Miha Kren, the President of the Svečina Tourist Association, the event’s organizer. The choice of spring isn’t arbitrary, reflecting the region’s natural beauty and the blossoming of its wine culture. It’s a place where vineyards flourish, and wine is deeply ingrained in the local experience.
