The Slovenian Forestry Institute (ZGS) has initiated assessments of forest harm where feasible. Initial evaluations in the northwest reveal extensive destruction, surpassing 100,000 cubic meters. This significant damage is concentrated primarily within the mountainous regions between Tržič and Cerklje, located in the Gorenjska area, alongside affected zones in Pokljuka and Jelovice.
Further assessments are underway in the eastern and north-eastern portions of Slovenia. Currently, the ZGS is estimating an additional 50,000 cubic meters of tree damage across these regions. The institute’s work continues to determine the full extent of the impact.
Notably, in the south-eastern area, recent snowfall has exacerbated the situation, leading to increased damage, particularly at elevated altitudes. Snow avalanches have significantly contributed to the overall harm. These assessments are crucial for understanding the scale of the destruction and informing subsequent recovery efforts.
The institute is diligently measuring the damage in cubic meters.
