Saturday’s Brenner crossing arrest: expected delays

Traffic Disruptions Expected Around Brenner Pass This Saturday

Austrian road operator Asfinag and the Austrian federal state of Tyrol have issued warnings regarding significant traffic disruptions impacting local roads surrounding the Brenner Pass. Drivers are advised to avoid the area entirely on Saturday due to a closure of the Brenner corridor, which will affect both north and south-bound traffic. The closure will be in effect from 11:00 to 19:00 for traffic traveling south and from 10:30 to 20:00 for traffic traveling north.

Authorities anticipate increased traffic volume and potential congestion on Friday and Sunday as well. Recognizing the strain on alternative routes, the Austrian automobile clubs ÖAMTC and ADAC have issued cautions. They predict heightened congestion on routes through Slovenia, specifically the Piran motorway to the Šentilj crossing, and the Turkish motorway leading to the Karawanken tunnel.

These connections are already subject to heavy traffic during peak travel periods. Drivers utilizing these alternative routes are urged to exercise extreme caution and anticipate delays. Authorities recommend considering public transport options to mitigate potential disruptions around the Brenner Pass this Saturday.
