The accident report in Gančani: an inexperienced pilot lost control in fog

The chief investigator of air accidents, Toni Stojčevski, has summarized the findings of the investigation into an aircraft incident that occurred on November 17, 2024. The flight departed from the Maribor airport with a 33-year-old pilot and two passengers who were undertaking a planned panoramic flight over the Pomurje region. During the flight, near the area of Gančani, the aircraft reportedly began a descent, eventually crashing into the ground at a location approximately 950 meters southeast of the settlement.

All three individuals aboard the aircraft were pronounced deceased. Authorities noted that the last confirmed radar contact with the aircraft was recorded at 11:31. According to reports surrounding the investigation, the primary areas of focus for the final report concern the pilot’s level of experience and the prevailing weather conditions at the time of the accident.

Details regarding the pilot’s qualifications were presented, indicating a total flight time of 93 hours and 35 minutes. This time included approximately 20 hours of flight experience in a Cessna 172, and less than 16 hours of flight time specifically in the aircraft involved in the incident.
