Polish Officials Pursue Extradition of Zbigniew Ziobro Following Flight to USA
Warsaw – Polish authorities are actively pursuing the extradition of former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who recently fled to the United States. Ziobro is currently under investigation in Poland on multiple criminal offenses. Speaking on the matter, Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated, “You can’t hide today.
You can run, you can delay for a while, but eventually you’ll run out of options.” Sikorski confirmed that Polish prosecutors intend to request an international arrest warrant and demand Ziobro’s extradition from the USA. Ziobro had previously announced his departure from Hungary, stating he arrived in what he described as “the world’s strongest democracy,” according to a report published by the right-leaning newspaper Republika. Last year, Polish authorities revoked both Ziobro’s Polish passport and his diplomatic passport.
Now, investigators are examining how he successfully departed the country. Sikorski emphasized that the prosecutor’s office will proceed with this investigation and anticipates a formal request for extradition will be submitted. “We expect that friendly countries will respect our request,” he added, noting Ziobro’s prolonged absence from such nations.
