A turboprop Beechcraft 300 King Air aircraft experienced an engine failure while en route from Great Abaco Island to Grand Bahama International Airport in the Bahamas. The incident resulted in the plane crashing into the ocean, located approximately 80 kilometers off the coast of Florida. Following the crash, the pilot successfully evacuated all passengers from the aircraft before it sank.
The crew involved were members of the US Army’s reserve air force, who were conducting scheduled training exercises at the time of the emergency. The incident was initially reported after the coast guard triggered an emergency alert. In response, military assets were diverted from their training activities to commence a search and rescue operation.
Rescue efforts quickly mobilized, and search teams located the surviving personnel. Upon discovery, responders immediately provided the victims with essential survival supplies. These provisions included necessary food and water rations, along with specialized swimming equipment and two additional flotation aids.
The operation transitioned from initial search and rescue to stabilization and support for the stranded individuals.
