The US and Iran agreement is expected to provide for a 60-day extension of the ceasefire, during which the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, and Iran could sell oil unhindered, the Guardian reports. In addition, talks on limiting Iran’s nuclear program would resume, US officials confirmed to Axios. Hostilities would be halted on all fronts, including between Israel and Lebanon.
The Strait of Hormuz would be cleared of mines, and Iran would not charge ships for passage, the US would remove the blockade of Iranian ports, which has been in place since April 13, reports Axios. The agreement could provide a “completely open” Hormuz Strait, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed, if it is successful. Iranian media have already reported that the agreement would allow Iran to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz, and that Iran would not charge ships for passage.
