On the Slovenian Tour after 13 years at Vršič

Vršič Climb Set to Define Final Stage of Slovenian Race

Following three stages focused on sprint finishes, the final weekend of the Slovenian race will shift its emphasis to climbers and riders capable of explosive attacks. Today’s stage presents a particularly challenging course, featuring several demanding ascents. The day’s route begins with a climb up Dražgoše (4.1 km at 7.9%), followed by the Predel pass (2.4 km at 7.7%), which will briefly resemble terrain found in Italy.

The stage culminates with a 12.6 km ascent to Vršič, a key climb renowned for its iconic status. This final climb boasts an average gradient of 7.7% and is expected to significantly narrow the field, selecting only the most resilient specialists. The stage is primarily designed to test the endurance of riders tackling demanding climbs.

Several riders from the Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe team, including Florian Lipowitz and Giulio Pellizzari, are considered strong contenders for the stage victory. The team’s strategic focus will likely center around these individuals as they navigate the challenging terrain. After the preceding sprint-dominated stages, the focus now turns to the capabilities of the riders.

The race will conclude with the finish at Vršič, marking the end of the competition for the cyclists.
