Ljubljana Withdraws Amended Traffic Regulation Following Referendum Initiative

Ljubljana – The City of Ljubljana has announced the withdrawal of the amended traffic regulation, citing the fulfillment of the will expressed in a recent referendum. Mayor Zoran Janković stated that the decision aligns with the demands of the referendum initiators. He further indicated that the city anticipates saving approximately one million euros by avoiding the referendum process.

However, Janković emphasized that the referendum process is overseen by groups such as the Initiative for Štepanjsko naselje and the united Civil Initiative for Ljubljana, suggesting that the individuals who collected signatures retain the right to determine whether to proceed with a formal referendum. Polona Zupan Klopčič, representing the city council, clarified that, legally, an act remains in the process of formation until formally published. Consequently, the council maintains the ability to withdraw the regulation before it takes effect.

According to Klopčič, this action does not significantly impact the majority of residents. The withdrawal reflects the ongoing engagement of civic initiatives within the broader context of the Ljubljana referendum.
