The Prime Minister is protected by the President of the Republic in addition to the President of the Republic, which is the highest level of protection for domestic officials. This means that he has permanent personal and physical protection, and his family members are also protected. Janez Janša has once again entrusted the police Office for Protection and Security with these tasks.
“I welcome this change to return to comprehensive protection, because we have seen that this change in protection has caused a great deal of unrest both in the police and in the public,” security expert Miroslav Žaberl assesses. He has already taken the initiative to organize his own protection under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Government, following the example of Janez Drnovšek. In the summer of last year, President Nataša Pirc Musar also separated from the Office for Protection and Security.
