Coalition Faces Criticism Following Corruption Allegations

The Leva party has expressed significant concerns regarding the actions of the newly formed parliamentary coalition, following allegations of corruption involving a member of the coalition. In a press statement, the spokesperson for Vesna Luka Mesec, a member of the Leva party, stated that the right-wing coalition, including the Together and Resnica parties, campaigned “about” a commitment to combating corruption. Prior to the elections, the coalition had repeatedly pledged to eradicate corruption utilizing measures such as the new anti-corruption agency, Skok.

However, the spokesperson highlighted what he described as a “huge scandal” emerging within the first weeks of the coalition’s administration, specifically concerning member Boris Mijič. “This government is not against corruption,” the Leva party’s coordinator emphasized, referencing the immediate demand for Mijič’s resignation following disclosures. “If the government were genuinely committed to addressing corruption, Prime Minister Janez Janša, alongside ministers, the President of the DZ (Parliament), and the Resnica party (Zoran Stevanović), would have demanded Mijič’s resignation concurrently with the information becoming public.”

The situation underscores ongoing scrutiny regarding the coalition’s adherence to its anti-corruption pledges.

Further investigation into the allegations is ongoing.
