Russian spokesperson, Maria Zaharova, detailed the situation on Monday, stating, “The ship suffered severe damage.” She explained that during the abandonment period, 450 tons of heavy fuel oil, 250 tons of diesel fuel, and substantial quantities of natural gas remained stored within its tanks. Any potential spill posed a serious risk, potentially leading to long-term pollution of the surrounding area.
