Opposition MP Criticizes Law Passage Without Consultation
Ljubljana – Slovene opposition MP Luke Mesc has strongly criticized the recent passage of a significant law, arguing it was adopted “without” any meaningful consultation or public dialogue. The law, projected to generate over one billion euros in public finance consequences and enact substantial changes to fundamental social systems – including the pension system and the right to employment – was spearheaded by parliamentary groups from the NSi, SLS, Fokus, and Demo parties. Mesc expressed his concern that the law was implemented “without” any involvement from government ministries, stating, “no government ministry is even involved in this law.” He described the process as unprecedented in Slovenia, deeming it “unreasonable” that such a far-reaching piece of legislation was enacted “without” any social dialogue or public consultation.
The MP highlighted a two-year preparation period for the pension reform, noting that “now that they are making very harsh changes to the pension system, they have not asked anyone about it,” adding a blunt assessment of the situation. The debate centers on the lack of transparency surrounding the law’s development and implementation, raising questions about the impact of these changes on Slovenian citizens.
