Slovenian Judo Competitor Metka Lobnik Secures Early Victory at European Championship
Metka Lobnik, a Slovenian judoka, achieved an early advantage in her opening match at the European Championship. Within the initial 30 seconds, Lobnik successfully executed a yuko, demonstrating an active approach to the competition. This early success prompted a more dynamic performance throughout the match.
However, the contest concluded swiftly due to an unauthorized attempt by Aleksandra Babinceva. The 19-year-old competitor utilized a lever technique, which presented a potential safety risk to Lobnik. Following a review of video evidence, the judges determined the attempt was unpermitted, leading to Babinceva’s disqualification.
Slovenian judo is now focused on securing its 56th European Championship medal, marking the 54th individual accolade. Elsewhere, competitor Apolon delivered a strong start to the competition. She convincingly defeated 19-year-old Czech Marie Košnarová, winning the match after approximately a minute with a final score.
Lobnik’s initial victory highlighted her strategic approach to the sport after the early challenge.
