Vingegaard Heads into Giro d’Italia as Top Favorite
Jonas Vingegaard will commence his campaign for victory this Friday at the Giro d’Italia, the only Grand Tour yet to be secured by the Danish cyclist. Despite this being his debut in the race, Vingegaard is considered the primary contender for the coveted pink jersey. The absence of several prominent riders has significantly altered the race’s landscape.
World champion Tadej Pogačar, along with Richard Carapaz, João Almeida, and Mikel Landa, will not be competing in the 2024 edition. Vingegaard will face a strong challenge from a diverse group of riders vying for the general classification. This includes Egan Bernal, who is returning from a significant injury and seeking a return to form, alongside Enric Mas, Ben O’Connor, Felix Gall, and the Colombian talent, Santiago Buitrago.
The Giro d’Italia promises a competitive race as Vingegaard and his rivals navigate the Italian terrain, aiming to establish dominance and ultimately claim the title. The race begins on Friday and will span three days.
