In 2002, a man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murder of a 24-year-old woman that occurred in May 1994, according to reports from Slobodna Dalmacija. The victim was allegedly attacked on her way home in Prgomet. Reports detail that she was initially stabbed in the back with a bread knife that had been sharpened for the purpose, and subsequently beaten to death with a rope, resulting in 17 stab wounds.
The body was discovered the day following the attack. The identity of the murderer remained unknown until the summer of 2001, when the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime at the police station in Kastel, at the age of 21. However, during the subsequent trial, the suspect retracted this confession.
Following the legal proceedings, a psychiatric examination revealed that the individual had impaired judgment and mental health issues, leading to a recommendation for compulsory psychiatric treatment. The court ultimately found him guilty and imposed a sentence of 12 years.
