The Wireless music festival in the United Kingdom has been canceled due to the British government’s decision to deny American rapper Kanye West entry into the country. The artist’s scheduled arrival was canceled by the Ministry of the Interior, resulting in the festival’s termination and a full refund for all ticket holders. “The Ministry of the Interior canceled YE’s (Kanye West) scheduled arrival time and denied him entry into the United Kingdom,” organizers announced.
The Wireless Festival had been set to feature West, a choice that had previously drawn criticism. In a statement, the festival organizers explained that they had consulted with numerous individuals before selecting West as a performer and had not anticipated any issues during the discussions. “As with every edition of the Wireless festival, the responsible persons consulted several people before choosing the performer and during the discussions, they were not exposed to any concerns,” the statement read.
The decision to ban West from the UK remains with the British government.
