State to Proceed with Burial of Post-War Violence Victims Following Law Adoption

The Slovenian state will proceed with the exhumation and burial of victims of post-war violence, as mandated by the recently adopted law, despite ongoing political and local opposition. These victims will be buried at Žale,” she stated. Previous considerations for alternative burial sites, such as the Teharje Memorial Park, have proven unviable. The mausoleum at Teharje remains incomplete, and officials highlighted that the site was never constructed.

Jeraj pointed out that the victims of the Huda Jama event were similarly unable to be buried at Teharje, with remains ultimately interred in Maribor. The decision to relocate burials to Ljubljana reflects the wishes of the families involved. Jeraj consistently emphasizes the importance of honoring these requests.

“Whenever I speak, I always mention the wishes of the relatives,” she reiterated. The implementation of the law marks a definitive step in addressing this sensitive historical matter, with the focus firmly on fulfilling the expressed needs of the victims’ families.
