SDS Leader Janša Addresses Public Finances and Government Formation

Ljubljana – Slovenian Democratic Union (SDS) leader Janez Janša stated that the party’s immediate focus is on assessing public finances, citing a current lack of precise information regarding the nation’s financial standing. Janša expressed optimism that a clearer picture will emerge following discussions within the National Assembly (DZ) today. Regarding the formation of the next government, Janša indicated that the process is largely being shaped by media reports.

He asserted that the SDS believes it is premature to engage in detailed discussions about government composition, emphasizing the need for preparatory steps. The SDS has previously proposed amendments to the government law, which is slated for debate in the DZ next week. Janša highlighted the party’s proposal for “a significant reduction in ministries,” anticipating minimal challenges in securing approval for this change.

Should the law pass, the SDS intends to present potential coalition partners with a framework for discussion, aiming to coordinate a coalition agreement. Janša emphasized that agreement would then proceed if mutual understanding is reached. The SDS continues to prioritize establishing a stable government following recent elections.
