Significant Precipitation Deficit Reported Across Slovenia
The Environmental Agency (Arso) has reported a substantial shortfall in precipitation across several regions of Slovenia since March 17th. Meteorological stations in Bovec, Gorenjska, Ljubljana, and the surrounding areas, as well as locations in Pomurje, have recorded significantly below-average rainfall. As of today, precipitation levels have fallen to as low as 17 percent of normal averages.
Specific stations have recorded particularly low amounts: the Sotinski bank in Pomurje received only seven millimeters of precipitation, while J. P. Ljubljana Airport recorded just four millimeters.
Lesce in Gorenjska also recorded a minimal four millimeters. Arso’s findings are supported by data indicating an over-average soil moisture level for this time of year, spanning from 1991 to 2020. Measurements show a deficit of 80 to 110 millimeters compared to typical conditions.
These figures highlight a concerning drought situation across portions of Slovenia. The agency continues to monitor precipitation levels and assess the ongoing impact of the reduced rainfall. The data confirms that precipitation has been significantly below normal since March 17th.
