Idea for a monument to Slovenian independence: a drug drugemu-drog with a flag and lights on the market

The Ministry, in partnership with Zbornica za arhitekturo in prostor Slovenije, organized and executed an international design competition last year. The initiative was a public, open, anonymous, and interdisciplinary contest aimed at conceptualizing the monument commemorating Slovenian independence. The designated site for this significant structure is the Republic Square in Ljubljana.

The competition solicited participation from a broad spectrum of creative professionals, resulting in the submission of 36 distinct design concepts. The process was designed to gather diverse perspectives on how to visually represent the concept of Slovenian independence in a public monument. Following the evaluation of all submissions, a single design was ultimately selected.

The winning proposal was authored by an individual who holds dual qualifications as both a practicing sculptor and a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. This selection marks the culmination of the year-long international effort to determine the architectural and artistic direction for the monument.
