Glenn Ciegler, an American surgeon originally residing in Minnesota, has relocated his life from the United States to Slovenia. After retiring, the 40-year-old professional sought a significant lifestyle change, motivated by a desire for increased natural surroundings, tranquility, and views of the mountains. His wife and he compiled a wish list spanning from Australia to Europe, with Slovenia ultimately becoming their top destination.
The couple reportedly fell in love with the location immediately upon seeing a particular home, a property measuring approximately 250 square meters. Glenn assisted with the purchase process and expressed surprise at the affordability of the local real estate market. “In my experience, prices here are much lower,” Glenn stated.
“We looked at 17 houses when we came here and were delighted with what we could get for our money.”
Beyond the property values, Glenn highlighted the appeal of the local population and the friendly relationships he has already cultivated within the community. While the transition has been largely positive, he noted one ongoing challenge: navigating the established social dynamics with the residents he has come to know well. Nevertheless, the move to Slovenia appears to fulfill his goal of achieving a more nature-centric and peaceful existence away from his previous life as an American resident.
