Government Maintains Excise Tax Policies Amid Energy Crisis Measures

The government has decided to maintain existing excise tax rates and merchant margin limits, continuing measures implemented to address the ongoing energy crisis. The government has also extended the exemption from the environmental tax for three petroleum derivatives until June 1st. Estimates indicate that these continued policies will result in a reduction of approximately 15 million euros in the state budget.

The measures were initially designed to alleviate the impact of rising fuel and heating prices. The Ministry of Finance announced a shift in pricing methodology for certain petroleum derivatives. Moving forward, prices at service stations located outside of highways and expressways will be determined using a methodology reflecting global petroleum derivative movements and the euro-dollar exchange rate.

This change aims to provide a more accurate reflection of market conditions. For fuel sold on highways and expressways, dealers will be permitted to calculate prices starting March 20th. This allows for greater flexibility in response to market fluctuations.

The government’s continued focus remains on stabilizing prices and mitigating the effects of the energy crisis, particularly concerning heating fuels.
