A fire incident near Srednji Vrh was reported to Carinthian firefighters on Friday morning around 3:30, with lightning identified as the probable cause. According to Jožef Lavtižar, commander of the Carinthian firefighters, the blaze was partially contained overnight, a progress attributed in part to the night rain. Despite this containment, residual hot spots remain in the area.
Response efforts continue to be extensive. Since the morning, four air tractors have been operating, collecting water from Lake Bohinj. Furthermore, a helicopter from the Slovenian Army is currently on the scene, with an additional aircraft anticipated by 11:00.
On the ground, twenty-nine members of intervention teams, comprising Carinthian firefighters and two mountain rescue workers, are actively engaged in suppression efforts. Lavtižar indicated that the fire, which covers an area of approximately four hectares within the Municipality of Kranjska Gora, is expected to be fully extinguished by the end of the day. The deployment of resources, including multiple air assets, underscores the ongoing management of the incident.
The combination of overnight weather conditions and sustained daytime support from both ground crews and air support is crucial in bringing the situation under control.
