Fire Resurfaces at Uborak Waste Dump in Mostar
A fire has reignited at the Uborak waste dump in Mostar, according to reports from Net.hr and confirmed by local firefighters. The blaze, which was previously under control on Tuesday, is currently concentrated at a single location and is being addressed by firefighting crews on the ground. Black smoke is emanating from the area of the depot.
Air quality in Mostar is currently among the worst globally, as measured by city center monitoring stations. Due to the ongoing danger posed by the fire and smoke, Mayor Mario Kordić has ordered the evacuation of residents from the immediate vicinity. Evacuees are being relocated to a reception center established in Salakovac, a village located in the northern part of the city.
Mayor Kordić stated that authorities suspect the renewed fire may have been deliberately set and has requested a formal investigation by the prosecutor’s office.
