EU Passengers to Continue Receiving Compensation for Significant Flight Delays
Passengers traveling within the European Union will continue to be eligible for financial compensation following delays exceeding three hours on their flights. Recent negotiations between airlines and the European Union have failed to establish a revised threshold, maintaining the current regulation. The updated rules, confirmed by Euronews, provide a more precise calculation of compensation amounts.
For delays exceeding four hours, passengers will receive €300. If a flight is cancelled or the delay extends beyond four hours, compensation increases to €600. Alongside these changes, a significant shift has been implemented regarding baggage allowances.
The new regulations abolish additional charges for basic hand luggage, a practice frequently employed by low-cost carriers. Each passenger is now entitled to a free personal item and a small suitcase, with a combined size limit of 100 cm and a maximum weight of seven kilograms, included within the standard fare. These adjustments affect all flights within the EU, ensuring continued support for passengers experiencing substantial delays of more than three hours.
The focus remains on protecting the rights of passengers on flights.
