Is the large leakage of data from the state registers the fault of foreign services?

The Lithuanian state prosecutor’s office announced that the leak occurred mainly from the registers of real estate and legal entities, which were accessed using the registration data of the institutions authorized to access these data, reports AP News. The head of the state company Adrijus registry center Jusas resigned immediately after such a massive data leak. The authorities immediately introduced additional measures, including blocking the accounts of alleged data users and restricting access with mandatory updating of the registration data.

The prosecutor’s office suspects a foreign country, but has not specified which country they are referring to. It is quite possible that they suspect Russia, as Lithuania has already been the target of Russian cyber attacks. Opposition politician Laurinas Kasčiunas has already publicly accused the Russian intelligence service.
