Canada and South Africa will open the elimination matches of the World Cup

The opening match of the elimination rounds will take place in Los Angeles, featuring South Africa against Canada. Both teams successfully navigated their respective group stages to reach this critical fixture. Canada secured second place in Group B.

Their campaign included a 1:1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a dominant 6:0 victory over Qatar, and a 1:2 loss to Switzerland. This advancement marks the first time the team, managed by Jesse Marsch, has progressed from the group stage during their third World Cup appearance. Meanwhile, South Africa also finished in second place within their group.

The African side compiled four points through their matches, which included a 1:1 draw with the Czech Republic and a 1:0 victory against South Korea, following an initial 0:2 defeat to Mexico. This performance marked the nation’s first-ever qualification for the elimination rounds of the World Cup. The outcome of this contest will determine which team advances to the quarter-final match.

The winner will face the team that achieved the better result between the Netherlands and Morocco. That quarter-final clash is scheduled for Tuesday night at 3:00.
