The international fight for the cleanest and safest beaches in the world will remain in the Mediterranean in 2026, with Spain retaining the world’s first place in blue flag beaches, Greece just behind it in cleanliness and safety, reports Euronews. The blue flag is an internationally recognized environmental label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The certificate is awarded to beaches, marinas and providers of sustainable tourist vessels that meet strict criteria in terms of water quality, safety, environmental education and information, and environmental management.
The program promotes sustainable tourism development and provides visitors with a high level of service and protection of natural habitats. Spain with a new record The International Committee for the Blue Flag will remain in the Mediterranean with the new record.
