‘Because I know Mujinčič as a person, I wouldn’t attribute it to him’

Darko Muženič Resigned as Director of the National Upgrading Agency

Darko Muženič resigned from his position as director of the National Upgrading Agency (NPU) on Monday, a move that followed a period of significant change within the Slovenian government. Notably, Muženič chose silence rather than address the public directly following his decision. This resignation contrasts sharply with his actions during the previous change in government under Prime Minister Janez Janša.

At that time, Muženič vigorously defended his position, employing all available legal avenues to resist dismissal. This time, however, he opted to resign. Borut Franc has been appointed to replace Muženič at the NPU, while Boštjan Lindava, previously the acting general director of the police, has also been replaced.

Muženič stated that he believes he can readily explain the reasons behind his current resignation. He referenced his previous dismissal from the same role during the third Janša government, emphasizing that he utilized “practically all legal means available to him” to challenge the decision. Muženič described the circumstances surrounding his departure as unexpected, given his previous resistance.

The timeline of events highlights a shift in approach from Muženič, who resigned rather than fight the change.
