Since the recent attacks on Iran by Israeli and American forces, the situation has become increasingly dire. According to data released by the Iranian Ministry of Health, relayed by Qatar’s Al Jazeera television, a total of 1,937 individuals have tragically lost their lives and 24,800 have sustained injuries. Al Jazeera’s Iranian Health Ministry deputy, Ali Jafarian, detailed the devastating figures today.
He confirmed that 240 women and 168 children, including students from the Minab girls’ primary school, were among the 1,937 fatalities. Furthermore, 11 health workers were also lost. Over 55 additional health professionals have been injured as a result of the attacks.
The displacement caused by these attacks is substantial. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that more than 3.2 million people – equivalent to between 600,000 and one million households – have been compelled to flee their homes since February 28th. This represents approximately three percent of Iran’s total population.
Earlier reports from UN agencies highlighted the concerning trends emerging from the situation, emphasizing the widespread impact of the attacks and the urgent need for assistance within Iran.
