In early June, the Celje Police issued a warning regarding the rise in online banking scams associated with personal bank accounts. A significant portion of these incidents occurred because individuals, acting in good faith and anticipating unexpected financial assistance, allowed unknown individuals access to their online banking credentials.
These unauthorized parties then exploited the access, either by initiating fraudulent withdrawals or by fraudulently establishing credit accounts in the account holder’s name. Police authorities strongly advise the public to remain vigilant against such deceptive phone calls. They stressed the critical importance of never sharing personal data with unknown strangers.
Furthermore, citizens must refrain from disclosing their PIN numbers for debit or credit cards, or providing passwords for online banking services. The police emphasized that maintaining strict security protocols is essential to prevent online fraud. These warnings underscore the need for public awareness as online scam tactics continue to evolve, making caution paramount for all users of digital financial services.
