Animafest Zagreb with Slovenia as focus

Animafest Zagreb to Showcase Diverse Film Program

Animafest Zagreb will take place from June 8th to 13th in the Croatian capital, presenting a comprehensive program of animated films. Organizers reported receiving more than 2,100 submissions from 95 countries, resulting in a selection of more than 300 films for display. The event will feature 38 world premieres, attracting more than 300 foreign guests.

This year’s festival places a significant focus on Slovenia. The program was curated by Igor Prassel, the founder of Animateka and curator of the Slovenian Cinematheque. A dedicated segment, “Slovenia in Focus,” will highlight the rich history of Slovenian animation.

This section will showcase the works of prominent Slovenian animators including Saša Dobrile, Dušan Kastelic, Leon Vidmar, and Špela Čadež. The festival’s programming reflects a long-standing connection between Croatia and Slovenia, dating back to the 1950s. This influence is evident in the artistic styles of the featured filmmakers.
