An explosion occurred on Monday evening, shortly before 9 pm, at a residential building located on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, in an area near the French border. State Minister Christophe Mirmand informed the media that the blast was attributed to an explosive device contained within a bag, which had been placed in the building’s front yard. Mirmand stated that, to his knowledge, such an incident represented a first in the history of the principality.
Prince Albert II of Monaco characterized the event as a “sad crime” and a significant shock to the entire community of Monaco. In response to the incident, more than 100 police officers and rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene, with assistance also provided by French security authorities. Evidence gathered from surveillance cameras captured the suspect fleeing the area on foot, heading toward the neighboring French town of Beausoleil.
Monaco authorities have not released the identities of the individuals affected by the explosion, confirming only that casualties were sustained. The incident has prompted a major security response across the region. The combination of the explosive device and the resulting blast necessitated a large-scale deployment of emergency services to manage the situation within Monaco.
