American doctor Peter Stafford tested positive for Ebola after being exposed to the virus while working with the medical missionary group Serge in the Democratic Republic of Congo, reports BBC. The first symptoms of the infection appeared last weekend, and the doctor was evacuated to Germany for treatment, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The outbreak of Ebola in central Africa has so far claimed at least 131 fatalities, and there are more than 510 suspected cases.
The US CDC has also announced that it is trying to evacuate at least six other Americans who have been exposed. The identity of the infected American citizen has not been revealed by CNC, but the humanitarian organization Serge yesterday said that it had been trying to evacuate at least six other Americans who have been exposed.
