AI would log every click, employee resistance: now they will be half an hour without control

Meta has announced changes to its Capability Initiative Model (MCI) program, allowing employees greater control over data collection. According to Reuters, employees will now be able to temporarily pause data collection for periods up to 30 minutes. Furthermore, employees will have the option to request a complete exemption from the program’s data tracking.

The MCI, initially presented in April, aims to gather data on employee computer usage to support the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems. The project’s stated goal is to create digital assistants and AI agents capable of performing tasks on computers in a manner similar to human users. Meta previously emphasized the necessity of data for this development, stating, “If we want to build agents that help people with their daily tasks, we need to have data about how they use computers.”

The changes represent a shift in approach, offering employees increased agency over the collection of their work data.

Currently, the company has not issued a formal statement regarding these adjustments. The focus remains on utilizing this data to refine AI capabilities.
