The recent Sunday debate between the leading candidates vying for the premiership – Robert Golob and Janez Janša – captivated two-thirds of all viewers watching television screens. Petra Kerčmar’s participation significantly amplified the event’s impact. Within the target group of 18 to 24 years, representing the youngest voters, specific shows achieved remarkable viewership figures, exceeding 70% in certain instances.
This translated to high, and at times absolute, projection of viewing share. Aleš Muhič, director of the company and marketing director of POP TV, explained this phenomenon. He highlighted that young people, when considering serious and important topics impacting their future, consistently select television.
The medium provides a crucial guarantee of authenticity, ensuring a live confrontation and a deep, detailed argumentative debate. Muhič further emphasized that this data confirms television’s role as the key reference medium within the democratic process. The intense engagement demonstrated the continued relevance of television in shaping public discourse and informing voters.
