The sudden, substantial rise in fuel prices has caused considerable concern, according to industry leaders. Jože Podgoršek, president of KGZS, issued a statement in Ljubljana expressing his astonishment at the magnitude of today’s increase, which was approximately 12 cents, following earlier announcements. He highlighted the disproportionate impact on the agricultural sector, noting a significant increase of 33 percent in agricultural oil since January 25th.
Gasoline rose by only 14 percent during the same period, while diesel experienced a 20 percent increase. Podgoršek questioned whether these variations represent a deliberate targeting of Slovenian farmers. He cautioned that rising energy costs are contributing to increased expenses across various sectors.
Specifically, fertilizer prices have surged by over 40 percent, leading to difficulties in acquiring certain mixed fertilizers. Podgoršek emphasized a contradictory situation: purchase prices for commodities, such as milk, have increased substantially from October 2011 to the present day, despite the overall rise in percent.
