Fire Investigation Underway at Planina pod Šumikom Weekend Cottage

Maribor Police conducted a fire inspection at a weekend cottage in Planina pod Šumikom on Sunday, following a fire that occurred over the weekend. The Maribor Police Office stated that the investigation is ongoing and further reports are being collected. The initial fire broke out in a building converted into a restaurant in Lobnica, on the ski slope, according to the Regional Center for Emergency Information Maribor.

The incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday. Flames spread from the approximately 200 square meter building into the adjacent forest area. Responding firefighters from volunteer brigades – Ruše, Smolnik, Bistrica ob Dravi, and Selnica ob Dravi – successfully extinguished the fire.

Their efforts included removing two gas cylinders and utilizing a thermal imaging camera to assess the site and surrounding areas. Currently, police are actively investigating the cause of the fire and are conducting a thorough inspection of the fire site. The investigation is expected to continue as authorities gather additional information and evidence.

The incident highlights the importance of regular fire safety inspections, particularly in buildings utilized for public gatherings.
