Local Musician Martin Krpan Passes Away
Martin Krpan, a prominent figure in Ljubljana’s music scene, has died. The news was initially shared on Facebook by his former partner, journalist Sonja Javornik, who described him as a complex and gifted individual. Javornik wrote that he was “a genius, a madman, he was everything, and certainly also an exceptional guitarist.”
Krpan gained recognition as a member of the Martin Krpan band, where he was lauded as the best guitarist of the former Yugoslavia.
He penned several well-regarded songs during this period. Javornik specifically highlighted “Happy in his sad way,” a track recorded with his band Bombs, as particularly representative of his style. Beyond his work with the band, Krpan was also a radio presenter and promoter, actively supporting emerging musical talent at events held at the Palma disco in Ljubljana’s Tivoli.
He was a key figure in showcasing new artists within the local music community. The Martin Krpan Group, of which he was a member, received coverage in Delo regarding his contributions. Javornik wrote that “the best and most suitable for him is certainly the Happy in his sad way.” Further details regarding his life and career are expected to emerge.
