A large fire has engulfed an automobile parts factory, killing at least 11 people

Yesterday, around 13:00 local time, a significant explosion took place at the automobile parts factory in Daejeon, South Korea. This was immediately followed by a substantial fire, causing widespread devastation. Tragically, at least eleven individuals lost their lives, and three remain unaccounted for.

Fifty-nine people sustained injuries, including two brave firefighters. The incident involved a large number of workers; a total of 170 were present in the factory at the time, with some becoming trapped within the building’s structure. Firefighters faced immense challenges as they attempted to combat the fire, unable to enter due to concerns about the building’s imminent collapse.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, 200 kilograms of sodium were stored at the factory, significantly hindering firefighting efforts. After more than ten hours of intense work, the fire was finally brought under control. Rescue workers and firefighters are currently navigating the severely damaged remains of the factory, diligently searching for those still missing.

The ongoing efforts focus on recovering the missing and assessing the full extent of the damage from this devastating fire.
