Mountaineer Injured in Fall on Mangart Mountain
Local authorities responded to a reported mountain accident this morning on the Bovec area of Mangart mountain, one of the highest peaks in the Western Julian Alps. The Police Directorate of Nova Gorica received the initial notification and dispatched officers to investigate. Three young Dutch citizens were identified as being on a climb along the Slovenian path towards the mountain’s summit when the incident occurred.
A 23-year-old hiker lost his footing on the challenging and steep terrain. He slipped approximately 70 meters down the slope. The individual sustained a head injury and bruising to his right leg.
Following the fall, mountain rescue teams were immediately mobilized. The Bovec police officers coordinated the response, alongside the Gorska reševalna služba Bovec mountain rescue team and an emergency team from Brnik, including personnel from the mountain police unit. The injured mountaineer, a year old man, was carefully transported to the accident site for immediate medical attention.
