Prime Minister Pirc Musarjeva Announces Shift in Strategy Following Leadership Negotiations
Following extensive consultations with parliamentary groups, Prime Minister Anja Pirc Musarjeva has announced a change in her approach to securing a mandate for the minority government. In a letter to the President of the DZ, Zorana Stefanović, she stated that no single candidate currently enjoys majority support within the parliament. The letter also referenced an extraordinary session of the DZ, highlighting concerns regarding the process.
Pirc Musarjeva noted a lack of respect and trust demonstrated during and after consultations with parliamentary group leaders, indicating a critical shortfall in necessary conditions for fair deliberations. Despite not securing the required votes for election as Prime Minister, she received communication from Robert Golob, the President of the Freedom Movement, who stated he could not reach a consensus for assuming office under the current circumstances. Consequently, the second phase of the mandate selection process will commence on Wednesday.
This phase will involve the potential nomination of Pirc Musarjeva’s candidate, signaling a renewed effort to secure government leadership after initial consultations yielded no clear outcome.
