Wheatley left Audi, before moving to Aston Martin at the door

Aston Martin’s new Formula 1 season began disastrously, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll failing to even pass each other at the recent Chinese Grand Prix. The primary issue stems from the Honda-developed powertrain, specifically the intense vibrations experienced during races. The team recognized the severity of the problem and made a significant change before the upcoming, crucial race held on Honda’s home ground.

They’ve appointed Mattia Binotto to fill the vacant role. Jonathan Wheatley, previously the team’s last-placed engineer, is departing due to personal reasons. Aston Martin expressed gratitude for his contributions and extended their best wishes for his future endeavors.

“Because of personal reasons Jonathan wheatley is leaving us. We thank him for his contribution to our project and wish him much luck in the continuation of his career,” the German team stated. Mattia Binotto will now take over, aiming to address the debilitating vibrations and restore stability to the Aston Martin’s performance.

The team hopes this change will provide a much-needed boost as they navigate the challenges ahead.
