Discrepancies in Secret Ballots Raise Questions Regarding Parliament Procedure
The timeline for a resolution remains unclear following concerns raised by the Freedom Movement (Svoboda) regarding the marking of ballots during a recent secret vote in the National Assembly (DZ) concerning the Speaker, Zoran Stevanović. An executive committee of the Freedom Movement assessed last week that the marking constituted a violation of parliamentary constitutional rights. The committee also identified inconsistencies within the National Assembly’s rules of procedure and announced plans for potential revisions to the parliamentary bylaws.
During the Friday secret vote supporting newly elected Speaker Stevanović, three distinct types of markings were observed on the ballots. A comparison of the number of ballots bearing similar markings suggests potential involvement by representatives from the National Assembly and Social Liberal Party (NSi), the Slovene Christian Democratic Union (SLS), and Fokus. Democratic Party (Demokrats) and Truth (Resnice) were also implicated.
Following a secret ballot vote on deputy speakers, further scrutiny of the marking of the glasovnic is underway. The investigation centers on potential irregularities within the National Assembly’s procedures and the use of glasovnic in the vote for predsedniku Stevanović. The Svoboda party’s concerns are currently driving the inquiry into the use of the glasovnic.
